Music Video Editing

Bon Jovi – Its my life

The music video has used some effective editing shots to fit the style of music. The video mostly consists of jump shots to add the dramatic feel and haste to storyline and the rock music. The jump cuts go from the boy running to the concert which has a fast cutting rate to show interruptions. The use of close ups and mid shots give a sense of contrast with two different places.

The camera cuts fit well into the beat of the song and repetition of a movement is used to emphasize to beats to enter the first chorus. The camera shots are very jerky to emphasise the importance of the beats.

At 0.54 – 0.58 are a series of jump cuts of still pictures of the boy falling. The camera shots are mostly mid shots, high and low angled shots to show him falling. The still pictures give a sense of low motion which fits into the lead up to the chorus.

Between 2.36 & 2.44 shows a series of jump cuts from the chase scene to the concert. This shows the haste effect of the cuts becoming faster. The instrumental part breaks up the song and pulls the viewer in with the intensity of the music and the running.

At 3.00 to 3.08 is a break to a heart beat sound in slow motion. This introduces the climax of the music and the video. The jump cuts again show the haste of the video and the peak of the build up of the adventurous aspect. The camera shots used involve low angled shots with panning from left to right to highlight the uncertainty of the jump. The shot is very unrealistic but adds to the climax of the song.
